The tech was like, y our filter is so clogged I wouldn’t even run it at all until you replace it. He took apart some thingies and showed me how the pump has ceramic bearings that will like melt or some crazy shit because the airflow is causing back pressure and or excessive heat. Drove right to the store when he left. I’m sure this paper box is cheaper that those three motors he showed me.

I’m done with it and will be renting my next house. Now I have to sell my current place that I just remembered has a ton of broken shit I was too cheap to replace.

Home ownership is a never ending joy! I wish more stores carried 20x25. They never have it at Costco or my local Ace.It always calls for a trip to Lowes or Home Depot. I’m thinking of changing over to the 4" thick just so I don’t have to change it as often because I’m lazy.

I buy furnace filters in bulk. It's the #1 way to avoid a technician. I swap them every quarter. That's $40 a year well spent.

I replace mine every 3 months
because I leave the fan on circulation so it turns on every 15 to 20 minutes to recirculate and filter the air even if there isn’t a demand for heating
/cooling
. You’ll also see less utility costs with a cleaner filter because more of the air will be heated/ cooled per minute
and the fan, compressor, and heater will be on less.

I swap mine every few months. It’s annoying how expensive paper boxes are but I run my furnace/AC a lot, have a dog, and burn my fireplace a bunch. They get clogged quickly.

Amazon recurring order for a while for me, just switched to buying 6 packs whenever I need them, so every year and a half. Luckily I’m 16x25x1 so not so bad

I have an exceedingly rare size that’s only sold by Home Depot and only in the low-grade filters (edit: it may be 20x25, like yours) . Considering the last one was the original (!) “washable” filter from the 70s or 80s (that never needed to be washed cause it didn’t filter a damn thing), I’m just happy someone makes the size.

Just raw-dog it. You're wearing a mask anyway right?

Is that HEPA rated? If not probably $5 to make it including the packaging.

Hey, be glad you have a deep filter, mine is a 16x25x1 and I have to replace it monthly.

Nice, yours are even bigger than mine.
Apparently my religious changing of them every 6 months is likely extending the life of the equipment. I had a guy come in to check on it a while back to verify it was doing well because we hadn’t had a checkup since buying the house.
